I’m Mikaela San Giorgio, a second-year Communications and Media student at the University of Wollongong.
At 18, I left Melbourne to work on superyachts, spending five incredible years travelling through Europe, the Mediterranean, Asia, and Australia. Life at sea was fast-paced and unpredictable. I was waking up in a new country one week and working long days on luxury vessels the next. It was during this time that I discovered a genuine passion for storytelling, capturing moments that made this lifestyle so unique.
Now based in Wollongong with my partner, Brad, I’m balancing university, work, and a growing focus on building a career in media. I’m currently studying Communication and Media at the University of Wollongong while working as an OOSH educator, and expanding my experience across content creation, social media, and digital storytelling.
More recently, I’ve begun applying these skills in a more professional context. I’ve contributed articles to What’s On in Wollongong, completed a social media internship with Eunoia Socials, and continue to build my own platforms, including CamperYachties and my portfolio page @captured_by_mikaela, where I showcase my photography and content work. Through freelance shoots, social media audits, and brand-focused content, I’m developing a stronger understanding of both creative production and strategy.
This blog is not just a university project. It is a space to refine my skills, experiment with ideas, and document this transition into a new chapter. It reflects both where I have been and where I am heading, as I work towards turning creativity, media, and storytelling into a long-term career.
